When you hire an HVAC contractor, it’s no secret that you want to find the best. Unfortunately, too many homeowners will simply pick a name from the Internet without taking the time to do any research. If you want installation or servicing of equipment to go smoothly, it’s important to choose correctly, which is why we’ve compiled some tips for you to use:
- Ask your friends – If any of your friends or family are using an HVAC contractor they’re happy with, contact that company first and try them out. This could save you a lot of footwork.
- Ask for references – A contractor should have no problem providing you with a list of references for you to call. When you contact them, ask each one about his or her experience in regard to work that was done.
- Ensure NATE certification – NATE (North American Technician Excellence) is an industry standard that demonstrates knowledge and professionalism in a wide variety of subjects covering cooling and heating equipment.
- Home evaluation – If you’ve chosen a good contractor, the first thing that will be done is a home evaluation. This will give the technician a good idea of your overall cooling and heating needs, and provide you with areas in need of improvement.
- Won’t rely on old equipment info – Unfortunately, there’s a good chance that your previous cooling and heating equipment was not properly sized. When the installation of a new HVAC system is undertaken, the old sizing information shouldn’t be used.
- Insist on written bids – If you’re accepting bids on a particular job, get everything in writing. The more that’s covered in the bid, the less guesswork you’ll have during the project. Don’t limit yourself to simply comparing the overall price. Also pay attention to warranties, energy efficiency information, etc.
- Expect professional – A good contractor will demonstrate professionalism from the moment they’re contacted – not just when you start paying them.
