While the Dayton area offers fairly comfortable weather for fall get-togethers, there are still a few HVAC considerations to keep in mind when you’re planning your parties. With a little advance preparation, you can ensure your guests enjoy their time in comfort.
Head Off Surprises
If you haven’t scheduled your furnace’s annual professional inspection yet, do it before you have any major gatherings. The last thing you want on a chilly fall night with a houseful of guests is for your heating system to break down. Your furnace might seem to be working fine now, but issues such as a dirty flame sensor or worn fan belt put it at risk for a sudden malfunction.
While Dayton’s fall weather is rarely warm enough to warrant air conditioning, there’s always a chance. If you think you’ll need the A/C, inspect your outdoor condenser unit and indoor evaporator coil for debris buildup and damage.
Air quality is another of the HVAC considerations a get-together brings. Check your air filter and, if it’s dirty, put in a clean one before the party. If you normally use standard 1-inch fiberglass filters, consider upgrading to a higher-efficiency filter to handle the increase in air contaminants party preparations and a group of guests can create.
Prepare Early
Extra people in your home means extra heat and moisture. Dehumidifying your home a day before your guests arrive helps keep things from getting too damp inside. The easiest way to do this is by running your air conditioner or whole-house dehumidifier for a few hours. Also make sure your run your kitchen vent fans when you’re preparing party food on the stove.
Plan to keep the room temperature during the party around 5 degrees lower than normal. Set your programmable thermostat to reach your desired temperature around four hours before your guests start to arrive.
Your guests’ physical comfort is a major factor in the success of your fall parties. By addressing the HVAC considerations of a fall gathering early, you can create an indoor climate that perfect for having fun. For more tips on ideal home comfort, read more on our blog.
