If you’re looking to upgrade your home’s heating or cooling system this spring, make sure you take advantage of any available HVAC rebates or incentives for energy efficiency. These savings are in addition to the savings in operating costs you’ll enjoy with HVAC systems that use energy more efficiently. Several incentives are available in the Dayton-Springfield area. They include:
- Dayton Power & Light is offering significant rebates to residential customers who install energy-efficient products in their homes. The rebates are $100 to $300 for air conditioners that meet the program’s efficiency requirements. With this and other HVAC system rebates in this program, the greater the energy efficiency, the higher the rebate (though the higher energy efficiency also means the heating or cooling equipment probably costs more upfront). Efficient air-source heat pumps may qualify for $200 to $600 rebate; geothermal heat pumps, $800 to $1,200; programmable thermostat, $20 to $50; heat pump water heaters, $100 to $200; and efficient blower fan motors, $50 to $100.
- Dayton Power & Light also offers a free energy audit for qualified customers, through its Smart Energy Community Program. This program is administered by Community Action Agencies throughout the Miami Valley, and is intended for residents who qualify for certain energy-assistance programs. Based on the energy audit, eligible residents may receive energy-efficient CFL bulbs, refrigerators, faucet aerators, low-flow shower heads and insulation.
- Columbia Gas offers rebates for homeowners who participate in the utility’s Home Performance Solutions program. By paying $50, their home gets an energy audit that will result in specific recommendations for saving energy through better energy efficiency. In addition to these savings, customers participating in the program qualify for generous discounts on air sealing, insulation and high-efficiency furnaces.
- Ace Hardware Home Services is currently offering a coupon for $20 off on your next service call, and an air-quality special with $50 in savings on certain humidifiers, air cleaners and ultraviolet (UV) light lamps. Certain HVAC manufacturer also offer rebates on heating and cooling systems.
