If you’re considering replacing your home’s heating and cooling system, now is an excellent time to upgrade to a new, energy-efficient system. In addition to the savings you’ll enjoy on your utility bills by running Energy Star-certified HVAC equipment, you can also qualify for federal, state and manufacturer-based rebates and incentive programs that can dramatically reduce the cost of your new equipment.
Here are the highlights of the 2011 federal tax credit program for homeowners who install energy-efficient HVAC equipment:
- Up to $50 for installing an advanced main circulating air fan
- Up to $300 for installing an air source heat pump
- Up to $300 for installing an Energy Star-certified central air conditioner
- Up to $150 for installing energy-efficient propane-, gas- or oil-powered water boilers
- Up to $150 for installing an efficient natural gas, propane or oil furnace
These rebates can only be applied toward the cost of the equipment itself, not its delivery or installation, and are available on equipment purchased between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011.
Numerous utility companies in Ohio, including AEP Ohio, American Municipal Power, Columbia Gas, Dayton Power and Light, Dominion East Ohio, Duke Energy, Firelands Electric Coooperative, First Energy Ohio, The Energy Cooperative and Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio offer utility rebates to homeowners who take measures to improve their home’s energy efficiency. If you are a client of any of these companies, it’s best to contact the utility provider directly to find out about the specifics of their rebates and incentive programs before you purchase any new equipment.
Finally, certain manufacturers are offering generous rebate programs to consumers who purchase their products. Right now, Lennox is offering a rebate of up to $1,000 for the purchase of high-efficiency air conditioning systems.
