Like anyone else, homeowners living in the Dayton area want an air conditioning system they can count on when the hot days of summer arrive. The unexpected often happens at the worst possible time. So what can go wrong with your cooling system, and how can you increase the odds that your equipment will run efficiently all season long?
Here are a few common problems that you may be able to diagnose on your own:
- If the air inside your home doesn’t feel as cool as it should, check the setting on the thermostat. Also check to see if registers are open, and that none is partially blocked by furniture or other objects.
- Is your air conditioning system refusing to kick on? Take a look at the main service panel to see if a circuit breaker has been tripped or a fuse has blown.
- Check the filter for dirt, excess dust and clogs. A dirty filter can affect the performance of your cooling system more than you realize.
- If the air inside your home feels humid or warm, check your air conditioner’s drain lines. Many homeowners don’t realize that the drain line can get clogged, causing your air conditioning system not to cool or dehumidify properly. This problem needs attention at once, as you could end up with water damage inside your home. You can usually clean the A/C condensate drain yourself using a water hose or compressed air to force the clog out. Check to make sure your drain line is flowing away from the unit as well.
When you have problems you cannot diagnose yourself, it’s time to call a professional. Have those problems taken care of now, before they end up costing you a substantial amount of money.
