HVAC trends and technology are constantly evolving. New developments are designed to improve comfort, convenience, and efficiency, allowing you better control over your environment while also saving energy and reducing your carbon footprint. Can any of these HVAC trends help you through the cold Ohio winter? Here are a few recent HVAC trends to be aware of this season.
- Smart systems. A smart thermostat allows you to control your home’s temperature from anywhere via your mobile device. However, that’s just the beginning. Sensors around your home can tell when someone enters or leaves a room, adjusting the air accordingly so you’re not paying to heat an empty room. With geofencing, your system can tell when you’re leaving the house or are on your way home. Your system can even learn your family’s schedules over time and adjust your settings accordingly.
- Duct wrap. Ductwork insulation provides a protective layer around your ducts that prevents heat loss as the air travels to your home. Quiet duct wrap is designed to be more green than other insulation types. Made from recycled denim rather than fiberglass, it contains no VOCs. It’s just as effective at saving energy, and it’s better for the environment.
- Radiant floor heating. Ideal for homes that are just being built or undergoing remodeling, radiant heating utilizes a heat source placed beneath your floor. The heat rises, gently warming the entire room while reducing overall heating costs. You can either install electric wires or hot-water tubes, which cost more but are greener and use less energy.
- Dual fuel heat pump. A heat pump is a great energy saver. It extracts heat from the outside air and transfers it to your home. However, it becomes less effective in below-freezing temperatures. The solution is a dual fuel heat pump. In milder weather, it functions as a heat pump, saving energy. In more extreme temperatures, it switches automatically to gas and heats your home like a furnace.
