Home energy evaluation
The efficiency of your home’s envelope influences energy bills, home comfort, and the heating and cooling load placed on your new heat pump system. A home-efficiency upgrade project will deliver years of positive results for comfort and energy savings, and, in the case of adding fiberglass insulation, it will last for the lifetime of your home.
Your HVAC professional should conduct tests (an energy audit) that reveal any deficiencies in insulation, sealing and even the energy usage habits of household occupants. A calibrated blower door test pinpoints tiny air leaks around doors and windows and other parts of your home’s exterior. A thermographic scan of your home reveals areas that need additional insulation. You also spend more money than necessary for a larger system. A too-small system has the predictable problem of not having the capacity to serve your needs.
Your home’s duct system should be analyzed to ensure that it’s up to speed for the new heat pump. Poor duct design undermines the potential energy savings of a new heat pump, and leads to poor indoor air quality and uneven heating and cooling.
